About 14% of workplace accidents are due to the use of ladders and construction stairs!
A ladder is first and foremost a tool for bridging a height difference.
Ladders are therefore not meant to work on! The use of a ladder is only permitted when there is no safer alternative such as an aerial work platform or mobile scaffold and for occasional work or work of short duration.

WHAT DOES THE LAW SAY?
"The employer limits the use of ladders, stepladders and platform ladders as a workstation at height to circumstances in which, taking into account the provisions of article 5, the use of other, safer work equipment is not justified, given the low risk and given either the short duration of use or the existing characteristics of the workplace and workstations that the employer cannot change." (Codex book IV, title 5)
