The accident happened at the business park in Joseph Cardijnstraat, where work is being done on a cooling tower on behalf of the bakery group La Lorraine.

The man fell 40 metres and was killed instantly. The emergency services arrived on site, but no help could save him.
Cause under investigation
"The cause of the accident is being investigated," says labour auditor Boudewijn Bracke. "Work was being done with a tower crane and with climbers. The tower crane operator witnessed the accident, and there were three other witnesses."
