Learn below how to use this checklist.
1. Vision on training and safety
Do you believe that for people and organisation...
- Training is an investment?
- Safety pays off?
- Results count?
2. Identify training needs
Use the following points to gather training needs:
- Know which training courses are legally required under the Welfare Act (excavator operator certificate, first aid, working at height, BA4 electrical safety, VCA, …)
- Know which training courses are necessary for safety within your organisation (safety awareness, hierarchical line, safety coach)
- Performance reviews
- Changes in the organisation or introduction of new technology or machines
- Frequent errors, complaints or critical incidents
3. Set priorities
To plan well, first determine the training priorities. You set priorities according to the budget.
- Training courses that are legally required
- Training requests coming from direct managers or the shop floor
4. Planning and organisation
In this phase you choose a training partner with whom you make practical arrangements.
- Don't base this solely on the cost, but also take into account the flexibility, speed and quality of execution.
- Always choose your trainer based on the desired result after the training. A theoretical presentation never has the same effect as practical training on the shop floor!
5. Securing results
This last step is very important, but is still applied too rarely.
- Determine the objective of each training course in advance
- How does this translate to the shop floor?
- Afterwards, check whether what was learned is applied on the shop floor
