High-risk tasks may only be performed by competent persons. They are activities involving an increased risk due to the equipment used, the working methods or the circumstances — such as working in confined spaces or slinging loads. A risk analysis determines whether a task is high-risk.
Training and assessment
For VCA companies there is an obligation to demonstrate that employees performing high-risk tasks are specifically trained for them according to the requirements of the “Register of High-Risk Tasks”. For a number of high-risk tasks in the petrochemical sector, assessment at an accredited examination centre is also mandatory.
Register of High-Risk Tasks
The Register was published on 1 May 2004 and is available on the website of the non-profit BeSaCC-VCA. It further specifies the minimum requirements of question 3.4 of the VCA and serves as a guide for handling high-risk tasks in all companies. For certain (petro)chemical tasks it contains binding requirements for the content (learning outcomes) and assessment of the training.
