WHAT DOES THE MANDATORY BASIC SAFETY TRAINING COVER?

To carry out work relating to the realisation of the structure on a temporary or mobile construction site, every contractor is required to provide their workers with basic safety training relating to temporary or mobile construction sites.

Mandatory since 15/04/2023 for workers, employers and self-employed persons who carry out a professional activity on the construction site.

Aim: to make everyone aware of the risks that may be present on a temporary or mobile construction site, whether these risks arise from their own activities or from those of other contractors present on the site.

The worker preferably follows the training before, and at the latest within one month of, the start of the work.

WHAT IS A BASIC SAFETY TRAINING?

Training intended to make participants aware of the risks they face on a construction site.

OBJECTIVE

  • Role and tasks of the actors involved in temporary or mobile construction sites
  • Organising effective collaboration on a temporary or mobile construction site, with a view to safety and health on the site and well-being at work
  • General prevention principles referred to in article 5 of the act
  • Applying the appropriate prevention measures
  • Understanding and applying safe and healthy behaviour on a temporary or mobile construction site

CONTENT

  • Legal principles and hierarchy of prevention measures
  • Importance of risk analysis before the start of work
  • Possible preventive measures for risks on the construction site
  • Securing the workplace and, where applicable, the installation
  • Mandatory, prohibition and warning signs
  • Personal protective equipment suited to carrying out a task
  • Working safely with lifting equipment, slinging gear, fixed and portable machines, as well as hand tools
  • Necessary prevention measures when carrying out work at height
  • Pictograms of products with hazardous properties
  • Risks and prevention measures when working with products with hazardous properties
  • Prevention measures relating to the risks of electrical site installations
  • Correct course of action in the event of a fire on the construction site
  • Emergency procedures on the construction site
  • Importance of behaviour, order and cleanliness for working safely on the construction site

EXEMPTIONS

Workers meet the obligation to have followed a basic safety training if they prove that they:

  • Hold a valid VCA certificate
  • Have gained at least 5 years of experience in the construction sector over the past 10 years

NO WORDS, BUT ACTIONS

  • Theoretical training with content approved by Constructiv
  • No exam
  • Every participant receives a certificate of attendance
  • This training is also possible for groups on site at the client's premises
  • Available in Dutch, French, German or another language (with an interpreter).
  • On construction sites where a safety coordinator is mandatory, workers must hold a VCA certificate

WHAT DOES THE LAW SAY?

The purpose of this agreement is to lay down the specific regulatory provisions relating to basic safety training for the workers referred to in article 1 of this agreement. (CLA 12-05-2022)
